Vilafranca City-as-School



Vilafranca –City as School- is a training program for unemployed people. Through a training method adapted to the surroundings, it leads people to find out and develop their own abilities and capacities. Each participant, together with the educators, takes the actor and director roles on his/her own learning process, in relation to his/hers own interests and needs. Thereby, everyone learns in an active way, through an Individual Training Plans based on the Productive Learning methodology.

The program Vilafranca -City as School- takes place every year from October to June, and it’s divided in terms. The fact of an individualised training, lets participants join the program at any time of the process.

Participants combine the morning training sessions in IDAP (theoretical and practical learning) with the evening work experience sessions in enterprises. Obtaining a product through the different resources offered by the city, stimulates students to carry out their own itinerary. Following this itinerary, both training and personal development within the community will be achieved. This learning process, mainly practical, is carried out in real work sites (enterprises, workshops, labs…). These sites are authentic training places to strengthen their own competences and abilities or even to discover new ones. IDAP collaborating enterprises become real sites for productive learning and turn Vilafranca into a real school.

In short, the dynamics carried out by Vilafranca -City as School- brings participants to use the resources of the community to achieve the target, such as work or academic placement, improvement of the job situation, or simply get more knowledge and a major social involvement.
